Boca Raton, FL (PRWeb) November 18, 2006 -- For the past six months, employees of World Avenue have worked together to put a roof over the head of a local woman and her nine grandchildren. In conjunction with Habitat for Humanity, nearly 70 volunteers from World Avenue contributed more than 300 man-hours, making the dream of home ownership a reality for one deserving family.
For World Avenue volunteers, the project has been a labor of love. "It's one of our core corporate values," says Keith Cronin, Manager of Corporate Communications for World Avenue. "We believe that giving back to our community is a responsibility that benefits us both individually and as a company."
The completed house will be dedicated later this month, culminating an effort that has been rewarding to everyone involved, and ending a period of displacement for a family of ten who lost their home more than a year ago to Hurricane Wilma. Cronin elaborates, "Habitat for Humanity provides us wonderful vehicle for helping people here in our own community. Our employees who volunteer always come home from the construction site with smiles on their faces, knowing that together they have made a lasting difference in somebody's life."
Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County was founded 15 years ago and has since completed 60 homes for families in Boca Raton, Delray Beach and Boynton Beach. Celebrating 30 years since its inception, Habitat for Humanity International has built more than 200,000 homes world-wide, including 44,000 built in the United States. Habitat for Humanity sells the homes to families interest-free and at no profit. Families qualify to purchase a Habitat for Humanity home based on need, their ability to pay the mortgage and their willingness to contribute "sweat equity" to the building of their new home.
